Poor Ellie

I know some of you were expecting a post on Ellie's dedication at church yesterday and a lovely Mother's Day post -- ha! Well, I would rather be posting that, and I will post it but not soon.

Saturday Ellie got a fever and was kind of lethargic. Sunday night she started crying and was inconsolable. I was on the phone with the doc's office four times through the night, thinking it was her ears again, but getting pretty much no help other than, "Motrin and Tylenol and make an appointment tomorrow". *sigh*

So, today, we were off to the doc's office again (you'll remember we were just there Friday and got an "all clear" on Ellie's ears). Turns out she doesn't have an ear infection this time -- thank goodness.

Instead, she has a viral infection that causes blisters in her mouth and throat. Poor baby is in pain!! Of course, since it's viral, we can only alternate Motrin/Tylenol every three hours and feed her cold things and make sure she gets plenty of liquid.

Kevin is working out of town and last night Ellie and I got about 2-3 hours of sleep the entire night as she spent the rest of the night screaming. I'm hopeful tonight will be better, but doc indicates this is a 5-6 day virus. Yay. I feel so bad for her -- I wish I could make it better for her.

I hope they are overestimating the length of the virus! Poor girl, can't catch a break :(

My son had a similar infection a while back -- it was miserable. The doctor wrote a prescription for a topical mix that we would squirt on his tongue to numb it. The pharmacist had to mix it up for us. I don't know exactly what was in it, but it had a numbing agent in it (a something-caine), benadryl, and something else. It was the only way he got any rest -- he would wake up when it wore off.

Maria, I'm so sorry for you and Ellie, I hope she gets to feeling better soon. I'm sure you're feeling run down, too, I'm saying a little prayer for you.

Two of my kids have had a similar virus. We too were given a numbing type of spray to help with pain along with the motrin .It seemed to help for a couple hours or so before you had to use it again. It did last close to a week but, the few days were the worst.I am sorry you both have to endure this.

I am just coming out of this same virus. I have to say that for a week I was completely miserable, and the ONLY thing to make me feel better was honey and lemon tea, nice and warm. Idon't know if Ellie would drink that, but it helped my throat so much as honey is a natural sore throat soother.

Poor girl.. I wouldn't wish that virus/pain on anyone.... especially a sweet little one.

Hand Foot and Mouth Virus? I am so sorry, that is miserable and only time will help. Hang in there and nap if she does :) We'll pray for her.

Oh no!! I pray she feels better soon. That sounds awful!

To second what Zach's mom said, I believe the doctor had us mix benadryl and Maalox??? You might ask the pedi.

We're praying for Ellie and you! Michael got that when he was young too and it was miserable for everyone. We tried the type of magic mouthwash that zach's mom mentioned but Michael would have none of it as he was in so much pain and it tasted horrid, plus he wouldn't swallow for us:( Keep you chin up with the tears rolling down your eyes!!

I'm so sorry to hear about this. Poor Ellie! Poor Mom! You'll certainly be in our thoughts and prayers. Maybe it won't last as long as the doc thinks. Fingers crossed...

Ahh - hand, foot and mouth I presume. Usually the worst of it is 1-2 days. Once the blisters have broken open, they kind of dry up and feel better. That poor girl needs a break!!
